Larry Ledgerwood to be chairman of GCTA

POMEROY-The Garfield County Transportation Authority elected a chairperson and extended participation in the zero fare pilot program at their meeting on Jan. 21.

County Commissioner Larry Ledgerwood was elected chairman of the CTA, replacing Commissioner Jim Nelson. The chairman holds the position for two years and is traditionally a non-chair member of the Garfield County board of commissioners.

The CTA passed a zero-fare policy for 18 and under riders in 2022 as part of the zero fare pilot program implemented by Washington State Department of Transportation. To remain compliant and be eligible for program funding the CTA extended their policy indefinitely as part of the Garfield County transportation policy. Public transportation in Garfield County has been fare-less since 2016. CTA general manager Jeff Ruchert cited logistical difficulties created by state regulations of fare collection as the reason. The CTA operates on public funding and donations.
