Chilly first quarter hinders Lady Pirates

OAKESDALE–A slow start gave the Oakesdale Lady Nighthawks the lift they needed to come out ahead 60-43 over the Lady Pirates here Jan. 24.

In the SE 1B Wheat Division, the Lady Buccaneers are firmly in fourth place with a 6-5 record with hopes of winning out the final three games of the regular season schedule. Gar-Pal is leading the division at 13-0 with Oakesdale at 12-2 in second and Colton at 9-4.

The Lady Wildcats come to the Pomeroy gym Friday for Senior Night.

At Oakesdale, the Lady Pirates couldn't adequately defend Bradyn Henley, who racked up a game-high 19 points. Two other Oakesdale players were in double figures, Lyla Kjack and Grace Perry, to help the win.

"Molly Warren had hot hand in first half hitting four threes," said Head Coach Brian Koller. "After the first quarter, we played pretty even with them. We just need to start games better.

"Overall, it was an okay game for us against a real good team on their home court," Koller said.

Warren drained three of her four treys in Pomeroy's 14-12 second quarter, trailing 34-25 going into the half time break. But the Lady Nighthawks bolstered the lead with five points more than Pomeroy in the third and rode the comfortable margin in the fourth quarter.
